The School of Law, IGNOU organised an expert talk by Sh. P.K. Malhotra, Former Union Law Secretary, Chief Guest on the topic "Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles of State Policy" to celebrate the spirit of the Constitution and its importance. On the occasion Prof. Nageshwar Rao, VC IGNOU presided over the function and recited the Preamble along with the Chief Guest and other IGNOU officials at IGNOU Headquarter.
Dr. Suneet K. Srivastava, Director School of Law in her welcome address highlighted the importance of the Constitution as a framework of governance for the Indian Republic. She talked about the history of making of the Constitution wherein she stated the original Constitution of India which was adopted on 26th January 1950 was a hand-crafted work of art and was in a calligraphic form. She also put on record her appreciation for the guidance and encouragement by the Vice-Chancellor. Welcoming the Chief Guest Sh. P.K. Malhotra, Former Union Law Secretary, she said that it was an honour for all of us to have him as an expert for today’s function.
Dr. Suneet K. Srivastava, Director School of Law presented a replica of the original Constitution and a Preamble to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.
Sh. P.K. Malhotra in his address reiterated on the tenets of the constitution as laid out in the preamble of the Constitution and compared it with "Gita Saar". He urged everyone to be cognizant of their rights but cautioned that we also should remember our duties as citizens.
Prof. Satyakam, Pro-VC stressed on the needs of creating awareness on the salient points of the Constitution which he said should be known to all and observing the day helps in dissemination of this living document.
Prof. Nageshewar Rao, VC IGNOU in his presidential address welcomed the Chief Guest and greeted everyone on the occasion and said that rights and duties go hand-in-hand for each of us. He said that the Constitution is of utmost importance and has been a guiding document to smoothly govern such a vast country like ours. This could not have been possible if those who wrote the Constitution did not have the vision, he added. He also stressed on fact that our Constitution is a living document.
