Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) celebrated its XIX Convocation

Rono Hills: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) the lone central University of the state celebrated its XIX convocation day 2020-2021. The convocation is held every year on 30th of November for some years now continuing it as one of its best practices of the University. 
Mr. MD. Basit Rahman, Master of Science in Mathematics was awarded the Chancellor’s God Medal for the year 2020-21 while Mr. Amit Soren, Bachelor of Education (Bed.) was declared as the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medalist for the year 2020-21. 33 Ph.Ds and 6 M. Phils were awarded in the convocation. Various gold medalist in post-graduate and under-graduates were also awarded.
Brig. (Dr) B.D Mishra (Retd) Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Chief Rector of the University presided over the programme.
Padmashree Professor Jagmohan Singh Rajput, renowned educationalist and former Director of NCERT(National Council of Educational Research and Training) was the Chief Guest. He much-admired the state of Arunachal Pradesh for its strong cultural heritage and prominently for its unity in diversity when the greatest global challenge since the beginning of evolution has been learning to live together. He added, the state presents an inspiring example of the same. 
Reflecting on the SDG-4 or the sustainable developmental goals-4 which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Professor Jagmohan call upon the young graduates to explore avenues and opportunities to enhance their innovative and entrepreneurial skills. He added, it should contribute in marching towards a world of peace, dignity, equity, empathy and a better environment for the future generations.
Professor Jagmohan in his speech terming the 20th century as the century of change and the 21st century as the century of unpredictable pace of change, he cautioned that education system should have to remain alert and active, conscious of the need to maintain the dynamic nature of educational enterprise. 

Er.  Taba Tedir, Hon’ble minister of Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh and Guest of Honor of the convocation termed the occasion as a memorial one for the young graduating students as it will remain with them in the years ahead. He added, it is undeniable truth that success does not happen by chance, nor does it occur overnight. The winner of any award proved that they are a cut above the rest in the focused pursuits of their goals. The minister said, as one graduates and enter into a new world, the process of transition will pose some problems but he believes that the value system that one acquired will be able to face with confidence. He said, from the state point of view, he welcomes them as the next generation of officers, mangers and leaders. 
He also said that completion of course and getting a degree is not the end goal itself, it is instead a part of the larger journey of life.
Professor Saket Kuswaha, the Vice-Chancellor of the University in his speech to the XIX convocation highlighted a brief history of the university. He said the first convocation of the university was held in 1998 and since then it has witnessed 18 such in series. Prof. Kushwaha added that the university has been holding its convocation on the 30th of November every year as part of its best practices which is a proof of the efficiency of the university. In spite of being situated in the remote Northeastern corner of the country, RGU has properly maintained its academic excellence as a result of which it earned a position for itself among the top 100 educational institutions in the country in 2019. In 2020, he added, the university secured the second position by the Government of India in the ranking of Central Universities of the country with a score of 83%. Even during the difficult period of COVID19 pandemic, he said, the university had completed all the academic activities successfully. Holding online classes, organizing many national and international conferences by observing proper SOPs. 
Prof. Saket added, we must remember that the world has changed after COVIC19 and reiterated that the pandemic has not ended and it is presenting itself in a variety of forms. He called on to take precautions against it without any negligence. 
Regarding the development of the University, he said, 10 new departments including department of physical education have been operational from this season. The faculty of sports sciences has been established under the aegis of the Ministry of Sports with five departments with twenty-five posts. 
Taking about learning infrastructure, he said the several university’s classroom have been converted into smart classroom with start of the art technology. The university also has smart theatres that are capable of hosting different webinars, virtual talks and lectures series. 
Encouraging its faculty members, Prof. Kushwaha added that a grant of 75% of patent fee will be provided who come up with innovative ideas and wish to file for patents. The University also has a provision for providing seed-money of rupees two lakhs only to newly appointed faculty members for starting new projects. He added many MOUs with reputed agencies has been signed and projects are underway.
 
Vote of thanks was proposed by   Dr. N.T Rikam, Registrar of the University. Looking at the present Covid Pandemic situation, the XIX convocation was conducted in blended mode. The programme was also streamed LIVE in YouTube channel of the University
