Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar and National Institute of Technology (NIT)
Srinagar, J&K and NIT Jalandhar have signed an MoU for collaboration
on academic and research activities in the areas of mutual interest including
collaborative research works, joint supervision of PhD students, joint
workshops and seminars, etc.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Rajeev Ahuja,
Director, IIT Ropar and Prof Rakesh Sehgal, Director, NIT Srinagar and
Professor R. K. Garg, Director, Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of
Technology, Jalandhar.
The MoU is a part of IIT Ropar’s initiative to
welcome meritorious students from NITs to spend their final semester(s) at IIT
Ropar, pursue courses, and do a project. The students will go through a
rigorous selection process, and subject to their continued excellence, will be
considered for an early admission to PhD programs at IIT Ropar.
The MoU
also provides an opportunity to the faculty of NIT Srinagar to apply for
postdoc positions or other opportunities available at IIT Ropar, said the
Institute.
Agriculture
and water related research and the innovations from
this AWaDH (Agriculture & Water Technology Development Hub)
SPOKE centre at NIT Srinagar and NIT Jalandhar will help nation-building
through ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ in Agriculture, food and water
applications domain. Faculty, Students and research scholars will innovate
technological solutions for making “EVERGREEN BHARAT”
taking guidance from expert mentors from IIT Ropar and relevant industries
exchange
According
to the MoU, state-of-the-art laboratories, facilities and visit of faculty,
students and research scholars of NIT Srinagar and NIT Jalandhar to IIT Ropar
will benefit to meet the objectives provided by IIT Ropar. The upcoming establishment
at NIT Srinagar and NIT Jalandhar aims to provide a promotion to startups,
capacity-building, innovations and research in various domains related to
Water/industry discharge assessment, treatment, and management, Advancement of
land resources and farm preparation, Agriculture automation and precision
farming, Harvesting and post-harvesting, Agribusiness marketplace, The
application of the Internet of Things (IoT) systems in the domain of
Agriculture & Water and last but not the least, Bioenergy and Biomaterials.
The scope
of collaboration on academic and research activities in the MoU includes
Academic and Research collaboration in the areas of mutual interest, exchange
of students and faculty, exchange of academic information, scholarly
information, materials and publications, and admission of NIT Srinagar students
for PhD at IIT Ropar.
“Each institution will nominate one of its
members as its representative in-charge of the cooperative programme.
Individual programme of work under this Memorandum will be jointly planned and
conducted by the nominees of both parties,” read the MoU.
Welcoming the agreement, the IIT Ropar Director,
Prof. Rajeev Ahuja said: “I am confident that this collaboration between IIT
Ropar and NIT Srinagar will lead to major research works that will benefit the
general public and the residents of Jammu and Kashmir in particular.
Meritorious students of NIT Srinagar can now come to IIT Ropar in their final
year and continue for their PhD after their graduation.”
Professor Rakesh Sehgal, Director, NIT Srinagar
in the statement said: “This collaboration will bring technology solutions for
the basic problems the industry is facing at J&K and also help our PG
students, research scholars and faculty. This collaborative move will bring
synergy in finding novel and innovative solutions to the problems faced by
industry in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in particular.”
The Director of NIT Jalandhar, Prof. Rajeev K
Garg further added: “This collaboration is positively taking steps towards
National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and will help in generation of new
knowledge in the frontier areas of science and technology.”
